We are used to dealing with nervous patients and even patients who consider themselves ‘dental phobic’. This is fairly common and many people feel nervous and anxious about going to the dentist. Avoiding your dental appointments can however be very detrimental to your long term oral health. We encourage you to let us know if you are feeling nervous. We strive to make every patient feel welcome and relaxed. We offer long appointment times, discuss your treatment options in detail in advance and proceed with your treatment at a pace that is comfortable for you.
However if you feel your anxiety is particularly strong, we can also recommend a programme of CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) to help you with your dental phobia with Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, Debbie Mathew here at Shelley Manor before you commence your dental treatment with us. After your CBT sessions with Debbie, a first step is to come and see the surgery and say hello to your dentist before we even book your initial appointment. We have had much success with this approach and have been able to help many dental phobic patients.
