Shelley Manor, Beechwood Avenue, Bournemouth BH5 1LX
Shelley Manor, located in Shelley Park, lay derelict for many years and has been beautifully refurbished to serve the local population. It is the historic early 19th century former home of the Sir Percy Florence Shelley, son of the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. One of the oldest documented buildings in Bournemouth, it re-opened its doors in October 2009.
As a result Shelley Manor is now a valuable resource for the local communities of Boscombe, Bournemouth and Southbourne. The building accommodates the Shelley Manor Medical Centre, a late night pharmacy, Shelley Manor Dental and further private medical services. These include chiropractic, sports massage, osteopathy services. Furthermore the facility has a large car park for visiting patients. The building is also equipped with a lift for patients who may be in need of one.
Moreover the wonderful Shelley Theatre is housed in the building, the original family theatre of the Shelley family. A dedicated team of volunteers have worked hard to bring this wonderfully atmospheric theatre ‘back to life’. It has a great and varied programme of musical, film and theatrical events for the local community, as well as a comfortable cafe for visitors. The drama club SCAPA operates from the theatre and offers young people, maybe the stars of the future, opportunities to participate in professional stage productions.
Shelley Manor Dental is located on the first floor above the pharmacy. There are plenty of free parking spaces available and lift access for those who require it.
